You know that tucked away, trivial memory from your childhood that comes to mind during a random day? Mine is my dad sending back a cup of coffee because it wasn’t in a glass mug at a Denny’s Diner in the late 90s. My parents are immigrants from Mexico & opened a restaurant in Tulsa in 1993. They worked incredibly hard, long days for many years but always made time for family on Sundays. Denny’s was our tradition -- our own little club; something we could look forward to each week.
I was thinking about that black cup of coffee, my usual belgian waffle order & the warm smell of butter when I drew what would eventually become my first illustrated crewneck for umber. Sometimes you need a reminder to appreciate the little things & other times, the memories just flood in.
Welcome to the Umber Brunch Club – sit & stay awhile.
